Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the Fundamentals of Quality in Construction: Understand the “Golden Triangle” (Cost, Time, and Quality), inspection vs assurance and recognise the critical impact that poor quality has on project viability and long-term sustainability.
- Navigate Key FIDIC Provisions: Identify and interpret specific provisions within the 2017 FIDIC editions regarding contractor obligations, workmanship, testing, approvals and the management of non-conforming work.
- Differentiate Roles and Responsibilities: Clarify the distinct responsibilities of the Employer, Contractor, and the authority of the Engineer regarding quality matters, and resolve common misunderstandings – such as whether an Engineer’s approval relieves a Contractor of their underlying liability.
- Implement Practical Quality Systems: Gain insights into developing Quality Assurance (QA) systems and Compliance Verification Systems (CVS) that satisfy contractual requirements. Understand the process of dealing with defects, remedial works and the Defects Notification Period (DNP).
- Financial management and change management: Understand the financial management provisions associated with poor quality, use of other tools such as retention money and performance security in the event of poor quality. Learn about proactively managing non-conforming work, rejection, and remedial actions to prevent quality issues from escalating into significant delays or financial claims.
