In the 21st century, few issues loom as large as climate change, global warming and carbon emissions. The UN Global Goal 13 underscores the gravity of the climate crisis, which threatens our civilisation. If we persist with current practices and development, the world’s temperature will soar to an irreversible point, triggering ecological catastrophe.
Despite the undeniable evidence of climate change’s impact on micro and macro scales, the term “Net Zero” only entered our vocabulary a few years ago. Net Zero is the courageous aspiration to contribute nothing to global warming. It envisions a world where nations not only cease releasing man-made carbon into the atmosphere but actively remove carbon.
With the historic Paris Agreement, embraced by 196 nations in December 2015 to limit temperature increases and the emergence of national green initiatives worldwide, countries are charting paths and setting ambitious goals to achieve net zero emissions. The United Kingdom pioneered by legislating net zero emissions, leading the world in this endeavour.
These pivotal issues and targets are poised to reshape how we conduct business in the infrastructure sector and influence our future planning. They will also profoundly impact our daily lives, no matter where we reside on this planet. Recognising this, the FIDIC Academy has launched an engaging, free of charge, on-demand course that delves into the principles of the Net Zero approach. This course promises to be transformative, shaping not just our professional lives but extending its influence far beyond.
